בחודשים האחרונים, התנהלה חקירה סמויה באגף חקירות ומודיעין משמר הגבול איו"ש יחד עם יחידת קצין מטה ארכיאולוגיה במנהל האזרחי אודות מספר סוחרי ומתווכי עתיקות שפעלו באזור השומרון.
לפנות בוקר (שני), עם מעבר החקירה לשלב הגלוי, פשטו לוחמי משמר הגבול, יחידת קמ"ט ארכיאולוגיה של המנהל האזרחי וכוחות צה"ל על בתי החשודים בכפרים בורקא, חווארה וסילת א- דאהר שבגזרת השומרון.
בחיפוש בבתי החשודים, נתפס נשק בלתי חוקי ועשרות פריטים אדריכלים- ארכיאולוגים לרבות בתי בד, כותרות, דלתות מהתקופה הרומית והביזנטית, כלים עתיקים מתקופת הברזל והתקופה המוסלמית הקדומה.
3 החשודים, פלסטינים תושבי השומרון, הועברו יחד עם הממצאים לחקירה במשמר הגבול ובמנהל האזרחי.
מפקד מרחב מג"ב איו"ש, תת ניצב ג'יהאד חסן מסר: "עתיקות ארצנו הן נכס לאומי והיסטורי, נמשיך לפעול בשילוב זרועות יחד עם כלל הגורמים למען שמירה על העתיקות, מניעת הסחר הבלתי חוקי, והרס אתרים עתיקים".
