The Trumpeldor cemetery, the first cemetery of the city, was built in 1902 by one of Tel Aviv's founders and leaders, Shimon Rokach. In its early days, the cemetery was located in the outskirts of the city, but as the city grew and developed throughout the years, this location became the center of the city. The cemetery is named after Yosef Trumpeldor, a famous Jewish Russian war hero who lived in the beginning of the 20th century. Many of the city's founding fathers, central Zionist and cultural figures are buried here. May 16, 2005.
